Moms Who Blog : Featuring Rajashree Ghosh

Hello and welcome to Mom Blogger October on the Times of Amma. As regular readers know, the Times Of Amma community is all about inspiring Moms and building them up as they work on being themselves and Mothers. And so, this month is dedicated to featuring Moms who are working on being themselves and mothers, while expressing themselves through their blogs. Let's meet Rajashree Ghosh who blogs about parenting, lifestyle, book reviews and social opinions. Rajashree is a content writer by profession and a post graduate in English Literature. She is an occasional freelancer who has explored various aspects of writing, the most memorable being editing Santosh Avvannavar’s book 'She: Ekla Cholo Re'. She is a nomad at heart, a non-conformist of many rules, a believer of spirituality and looks for self-motivation when she is down because if she thinks she can, she probably can.

What was it that prompted you to become a blogger?

I always wanted to start my own blog but it was only after the birth of my daughter that I finally created my own space in the blogosphere (though it’s still in a very nascent stage). My blog houses all the musings of my soul and helps me to freeze those pieces of memory which I can very fondly revert to in future...thus the name roomofmyown :)

Which has been your most memorable post to date and why?

The most memorable post would be my interview which was first published here. I edited Santosh Avvannavar’s book She: Ekla Cholo Re for which the interview was published.

What has the most memorable comment on your blog been so far?

There was this particular comment made my by college friend that I thought was very special. She thanked me for reminding the important role of play in a child’s life. You can read the post here.

Interestingly, she also turned into a blogger after reading my posts!

Have you ever started to write a post and then abandoned it? Why?

So many times! I had to abandon the post either due to time crunch or something else popped up that time. Later, when I tried to revisit the idea, it betrayed me. I feel guilty that time! I realized that I have to live with it and learn to deal with it.

Do you stick to a regular posting schedule or do you post whenever inspiration strikes? Do you have a writing routine?

As much as I want to post regularly but it does not happen. Somewhere at the back of my mind, it strikes that I may be neglecting my blog and I hate myself for that. I always think that I will write a blog at least weekly but it doesn’t happen.

Do you find it hard to get your voice heard in the crowded blogosphere?

Not really because writing is very subjective and everyone has their own writing style.

Many say that blogging is dead thanks to other micro-blogging avenues like Twitter, Snapchat and others. As the owner of a traditional blog, how would you respond to that?

I think blogging is quite happening in India. Social media and micro blogging appeals to a different younger audience but I know for a fact that a lot of moms read more blogs now (parenting blogs are the new in thing, you could say). Social media is a great platform to get your voice heard and I use it to promote blogging.

Do you see your blog as a stepping stone to something else? Do you see yourself wearing the tag of 'blogger' five years down the line?

Yes definitely…a mommy who blogs regularly!

What tips do you have for other Indian Mom bloggers?

Be the ‘queen’ of your life and continue to be the rolling stone that gathers no moss. It may not be easy always but it’s not impossible. I too have my days when I feel ‘stuck’ but I know it’s up to me to find inspiration and move on. Please don’t give up without trying and learn from your children how to enjoy life!
