Mothers Month Special: An ode to three mothers

Unconditional, resilient, strong- traits that I see in the 3 women in my life. All my life I have seen my mum go the extra mile with my dad to ensure my happiness above all things. Much as I appreciated the efforts, what I did not fully comprehend was that your brain is constantly ticking to be one step ahead of your child, to think ahead of her needs, comfort, safety, future-until I became a mother myself.
You are on the go so constantly that you have no time for yourself. Which is what happened to my mum; she gave up many of her desires and needs to accommodate mine-studies,hobbies,passion all channelled into bringing me up, and doing it all over again now for my son. To sacrifice so much for another takes a supreme effort and I am eternally grateful to her for making me what I am.
My grandma who has taken over the mantle of a great-grandma with ease, has gone through life’s hardships and made her own set of sacrifices for her husband and children.
My mum-in-law, who brought up her two sons battling through long banking hours, smiling her way through her emotional turmoil of being away from her kids, balancing a career while also bringing up the boys to what they are now.
To me, this is an ode to the three mothers who inspire me every day as I find my feet wading through this new and beautiful journey called motherhood ~ Thank you, Arthika for this lovely piece.
